Random Rant...

This video is insane. Are the girls good dancers? Yes. BUT THEY ARE 8-YEARS-OLD!! If my daughter wants to take dance, I am more than happy to sign her up, but the second I see a routine this provocative, I would have her off the stage in a heartbeat! What kind of message are the parents and dance instructors sending to these young girls? At lunch today, the teachers were talking about the way some of the 4th and 5th grade girls were dressing. The sad thing is, they don't buy their own clothes, their parents do. I know I should not point fingers at any parent, because I am not one; however, who let's their 12-year-old daughter out of the house with either a super short skirt and a tank top where you can see their bra and belly button, or super tight pants with their thongs hanging out over their jeans. I'm sorry, but those parents should not be surprised when they get a phone call in a few years that they're going to be grandparents! Call me a prude or old fashioned, but I hope to instill a sense of modesty and pride in my daughter's self-image so that she does not feel that she has to put everything she's got out there for the world to see (not that I would buy the type of clothes that shows all she's got anyway). It just blows my mind that people continue to wonder why there is such an increase in teen sex and pregnancy, when at age eight little girls are being taught that this is an appropriate way to dance and dress and if they do dance and dress this way they will win and succeed in life. Granted, this is an extreme video, but the lack of clothing in the 5th grade hall is a daily occurrence. Anyhoo...I'm finished ranting for now! I better go put on my shortest skirt and tightest, low cut shirt...we're having company over =)

***** For some reason the whole video isn't showing on the screen, I guess because it's a wide screen video...but you get the drift****

One of the perks...

Yesterday I did a fun activity with my 3rd graders where we wrote Spring cinquain poems (noun, 2 adjectives, three -ing participles, phrase about the noun, and synonym for the noun) to display on the wall outside of class. They were SO cute! Being able to do fun, cute crafts is one of the things I cannot wait for. However, I do realize that it is very time consuming, so I'll have to get Greg a good pair of scissors for after hours cutting =) Anyway...just thought I'd share a little of my week and why I love what I'm doing!

Pictureless Update...

Hello all! This as been a busy week but I nothing really picture worthy! I had two observations this week, my supervisor on Monday and my collaborating teacher observed me on Thursday. This week went really well, I know 100% that teaching is exactly where I need to be! I love it! It's going to be so sad to leave these 3rd graders in 2 weeks! I can't imagine how attached I'll get to my own classes when I have all year with them! Besides school stuff, nothing much as been going on! Greg is awesome of course and has brought me flowers home and made dinner this week for having a good observation (so sweet)! Last night we went on a fun group date with Greg's co-workers Chris and his new g/f and Patrick, and I brought a friend to set him up with...which worked out very well! We had a ton of fun at US Play! Tonight I am keeping Karis and Laurel and I am SO excited to see them! It's been a week....that's long enough!! Anyway, not too much to write about, just letting you know I am still blogging =)

KA's Tinkerbell Party...

Yesterday was Katie Anne's 3rd birthday party! It was Tinkerbell themed and SO cute and SO fun! The kids all had a blast and so did the adults. There was a big blow-up slide that was a big hit and a bounce house for the little ones. After lunch there was a treasure hunt for the kids where they had to fill their baskets with little candy filled treasure chests. Katie Anne got lots of fun gifts and it was so much fun watching her open them! I am SOO very glad I was able to come this year since I missed last year's party! I took LOTS of pictures (a little over 300)...but don't worry, only about half are in the slideshow =) Here are some more cute pictures of the birthday fairy...

Happy 3rd Birthday Katie Anne...

This gorgeous girl turned three yesterday, but unfortunately we couldn't be in two places at once! However, we will be at her birthday party next weekend and we can't wait! We love being aunt and uncle to such a sweet and funny girl! It is so much fun watching her grow up and develop into such an fun person!! We love you Katie Anne!

***Yes, within 2 weeks we have Eva who turned 2 on Mar. 15th, Katie Anne who turned 3, and James who turned 1, both on April 4th...If I get pregnant in the months that we have planned (still a while a way), then that will add to the March/April birthday list!***

Happy Easter...

This weekend we went to Raleigh to celebrate Eva's 2nd birthday, Easter, and James' 1st birthday! That's a lot to get into one weekend! On Saturday we went to my parent's church for the Easter service and took Eva with us. The service was AWESOME! As if the Easter message is not powerful enough, the sermon given was so inspiring! The sermon was about what makes being a Christian different from other religions and the pastor discussed the differences. Then at the end of the lesson, the pastor talked about how none of us is perfect nor does God expect us to be, and then a group of about 20 people came on stage and while music played they held up a board/sign with their past sin on it and then after allowing enough time for the congregation to read it, they would flip it over and show where they had written how God has forgiven and healed them. SO incredible! I don't think there was a dry eye in the building! I just couldn't imagine the courage it takes to stand up on stage in front of such a large crown of friends, family, and strangers, and display your deepest darkest sin for all to see. It was such a powerful message. After the service we all went home to open presents with Eva and eat a yummy Mexican supper!

Johnston Family Easter (Palm Sunday)...

On Palm Sunday we had the Johnston/Glawson/Jones Easter celebration. We had tons of delicious food and enjoyed catching up with everyone. After eating, the adults went downstairs to hide eggs for the kids that were going to hunt (KA, Ashley, and Zach). We had to have the hunt inside because of the weather. There were SO many eggs for them to hunt and it was so much fun watching Katie Anne gather all her eggs! Once the weather cleared up, there was an adult egg hunt where me, Greg, Katie, Saunders, Angela, and Logan all ran around the back yard hunting for candy filled eggs! The whole afternoon was so much fun! Can't wait until next year =)
