May Reading...

My goal for this summer is to get as much reading for pleasure done as possible, since this is my first summer without classes and I very rarely have time to just sit and read. So each month, I will write a short review of each book that I have read so you can check them out if interested! Here are the books I read in May in order from favorite to least favorite...

1) Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers: I've already written an entire post about this book, so you know how I feel about it. It's my favorite!

2) Looking for a Love Story by Louise Shaffer: This was so good! It was a bit slow for me in the beginning, but considering I read it in a day and a half, it wasn't that bad =) I really like this one because the author is so witty and I love her conversational tone with the reader throughout the book. I really suck at writing a synopsis so here is the one from Random House books...
After the success of her first novel, Love, Max—an irresistibly funny look at divorce as seen through a dog’s eyes—Francesca’s fictional saga becomes real when her sexy photographer husband bails on her. The good news is that Francesca gets custody of their apartment and their dog—an adoring scamp who has mastered the art of unconditional love. Still, a girl and her dog have to eat, so a desperate search for income leads Francesca to Chicky, a spunky, red-haired octogenarian who wants Francesca to write the memoirs of her parents, Joe and Ellie, who toured the vaudeville circuit in the early 1920s. Francesca is reluctant to take the job, but Chicky’s tales soon lure her into a showbiz era as irresistible and unlikely as the love story that unfolds. As she re-creates Joe and Ellie’s story, Francesca reflects, with hilarious honesty, on her own childhood and marriage—and discovers how to put the pieces of her life back together in a way that redefines herself and the true meaning of family and love.
3) The Host by Stephanie Meyer: It took me a while...but I finished it and liked it. I read this right after Redeeming Love, so I am not sure if I was just having trouble with switching gear (totally) or just had too high of expectations, but this took me a while to get into. However, I got through the 619 pages and really enjoyed it. This was more of a science fiction kind of book about aliens (souls) that have invaded the human species. If you have read The Giver by Lois Lowry (which is one of my all time favorites), I think you will really like this. Again...here is a synopsis from Amazon about the book...
The author of the Twilight series of # 1 bestsellers delivers her brilliant first novel for adults: a gripping story of love and betrayal in a future with the fate of humanity at stake. Melanie Stryder refuses to fade away. The earth has been invaded by a species that take over the minds of their human hosts while leaving their bodies intact, and most of humanity has succumbed.Wanderer, the invading "soul" who has been given Melanie's body, knew about the challenges of living inside a human: the overwhelming emotions, the too vivid memories. But there was one difficulty Wanderer didn't expect: the former tenant of her body refusing to relinquish possession of her mind.Melanie fills Wanderer's thoughts with visions of the man Melanie loves-Jared, a human who still lives in hiding. Unable to separate herself from her body's desires, Wanderer yearns for a man she's never met. As outside forces make Wanderer and Melanie unwilling allies, they set off to search for the man they both love.Featuring what may be the first love triangle involving only two bodies, THE HOST is a riveting and unforgettable novel that will bring a vast new readership to one of the most compelling writers of our time.

4) The Shunning by Beverly Lewis: It's probably cheating to even add this to the list because I only got about 3/4 through the book. It's not very good and I don't recommend this one, but maybe it just wasn't my thing. It was about an Amish community and a girl who wanted to rebel and live the modern, English lifestyle. It was very slow and it wasn't getting any better, so I gave up on it and read Looking for a Love Story instead.

I've already started on my June list, so next month I will post a review about each of those!

E-Mealz...

Whole Wheat Banana French Toast (w/1/4 c. sugar free syrup...not pictured), Turkey Bacon, and Strawberries...8 WW pts

A few weeks ago, my friend Leah wrote a blog post about a website called E-Mealz. Once you sign-up, you choose one of the several menu options available and each week you receive a new weekly menu COMPLETELY planned out, directions on how to cook each item, and everything you need at the grocery store. AND if you choose a menu option with a particular store (Publix for instance), then they create the menu based on items that are on sale that week. WHAT A LIFE SAVER! Since Greg and I have started back on the whole diet train, I chose a Points System (weight watchers) menu for 2. This has given me some GREAT recipes and I feel so much better knowing that I am cooking something healthy and delicious for us instead of fattening and delicious! This is also a great way to save money (Dave Ramsey recommended) because it saves you from putting randoms things in your cart, just get what's on the list and move on. I'm so glad Leah posted about this because this has been so great for us and you should also check it out!

Bowling night...

Last night we had a blast with our new small group (minus Chase and Kristie who were at the beach). We started a spin-off group from N-weds so that we could all stay together and still get together once a week. We all met at Willy's for dinner and then headed over to U.S. Play for some bowling...which I was AWESOME at. Everyone was extremely jealous of my talent and mad bowling skills; I had to talk to everyone about envy and it was really awkward. JUST KIDDING...I was terrible, as usual. I think the first game I had about a 48, which was at least half of everyone else's scores (sadly I'm not kidding or exaggerating). Everyone else on the other hand played pretty well, and I thoroughly enjoyed Greg's special (and I do me "special") strike dance...let's just say that I hope our group will take us out in public again =) It was a great night with great friends and I can't wait to get closer with this group of people! Afterward, Greg and I went to watch the UFC fight and did not get home until 2 AM!!! Considering I'm usually in bed by 10ish...that's LATE people! It was fun anyway, and today and I am headed to the outlets with my friend Jillian for some super Memorial Day savings =)

A day with KA...

On Monday, poor little KA hurt her arm on the playground at daycare...sad times for her, but good times for me because that meant I got to stay home with her on Wednesday! We had such a fun day hanging out together (we should do it more often...hint hint)! We painted with water colors, played with baby dolls and barbies, played a match game that we switch up a bit by taking turns being the grumpy old troll from Dora and making up silly riddles for each other, played hide-and-go-seek, played frisbee outside, and played with chalk in the driveway! It was a fun filled day for sure! She is so funny and has such a fun personality, I can't wait to play with her at the beach in a few weeks and hopefully we'll get to spend some more time together over the summer!
Playing her match up game

I told her to make a silly face...instead she makes this super sweet face and makes me look like a fool =)

Weekend with my parents...

On Thursday, my parents came into town for a long weekend. We had such a fun time!! On Friday, my parents and I went to the Dawsonville outlets while Greg was at work and did a bunch of shopping! Friday night we all went to Flip (one of our favorites) and ate some DELICIOUS burgers! We ended the night with watching Avatar, my parents had never seen it, and they loved it! Saturday morning we all woke up and headed over to the Marietta Square to walk around the Farmer's Market. My mom and I ate breakfast in the Australian Bakery while we waited on the guys to get to the square (Greg had to stop in the Marietta branch and fix a work problem). The farmer's market is so neat and I was so glad we went over there to check it out! From there, my mom and I left to spend a girl's day together since I was not with her for Mother's Day. I took her out for a hibachi lunch at Pacific Spice and then we shopped around a bit, waiting for our appointment time to get our nails done. We enjoyed getting out mani/pedi's together and then went home to the boys! Saturday night Greg cooked his FANTASTIC quesadillas for us. They were SOO good (as always)! After dinner we all played a game of Rook, which was so much fun! Sunday morning we woke up for a yummy breakfast that I made (bacon, egg, and cheese sesame bagels) and then we spent the day at the pool! We came home and made homemade pizza and played some more Rook and watched the movie Crazy Heart. It was a very fun, busy weekend! I certainly wished they lived closer! Here are a few pictures from the weekend...

Nweds Graduation...

Official graduates...diploma and everything =)

Tonight was our N-Weds graduation party! I can't believe it's already been two years (we started while we were engaged)! This group has literally meant the world to us and I could not have imagined starting our lives together without it. We have such an INCREDIBLE marriage, and this group has helped us lay such an awesome foundation. We had a great day hanging out at the lake! Fortunately, the weather held out and we were able to go for a boat ride and a quick swim (although it was only me and two others who were brave enough to jump in...hints the crappy hair and no make-up). We all enjoyed playing the Newlywed Game and eating lots of yummy food! We will greatly miss spending every other Sunday night with everyone, but we have already made plans for another small group with a few graduates. We have made lifelong friends over these past two years, and I am so very happy to have found North Metro when we did to have been a part of such a wonderful group of people!

Funny Karis-isms from today..

You know my love of a hilarious preschool conversation...so here are a few from just today!

Conversation 1:
Karis: JILL-LI-LAN!!!
Me: what?!
Karis: It's about to get CRAAAAZY in here.
Me (laughing at this very random comment...we were simply having a snack): oh really, why is that?
Karis: Because it's about to be PARTY TIME! We're going to have a party!

HAHA!!

Conversation 2:
Scene: I hear Karis scolding her beloved stuffed animal (Honey Izza Bunny) and I walk in the dining room to see what the commotion is about. She has bunny in a corner and is talking very loudly to him..

Karis: Bunny! That was very bad! You are in TIME-OUT.
(She walks a away for a second and then casually walks back to the corner)
Now Bunny, why were you in time-out?
(in a high-pitched voice...speaking as Bunny of course)- Because I spilled oatmeal all over the floor.
(back in her normal voice) Thank you for telling me what you did. I love you. If you didn't tell me what you did I would have to leave you in time-out because that was VERY BAD (very firm voice).
Me (I've been watching this and I look over in the den and see several packets of oatmeal sprawled across the floor): Karis, I don't think it was Bunny who put the oatmeal on the floor, I think it might have been you.
Karis: Nope. Bunny did it. But don't worry Jill-li-lan, I already put him in time-out and he said he was sorry.

SOO funny! (she did pick up the oatmeal)

Conversation #3:
Scene: Playing outside, Karis is pushing Laurel in her swing.
Me: You are such a great big sister! Do you like having a sister?
Karis: Yes I do.
Me: Do you still want a brother?
Karis (with a very contemplative look on her face): No, I've been thinking about it and I changed my mind. I want a dog instead.

LoL...so funny!!

Needless to say....I am SO happy to be back with these two crazy girls =)

Surprise...

Tonight when I got home from babysitting, I walked in to the office and saw a cute pink gift bag sitting on my desk. I opened it to find tickets to see Paramore (my favorite band) and Tegan and Sara (another favorite) on Sept 1st. I am SOOOO excited and I was SOOO surprised! Greg was too sweet to get these for me and I can't wait to go see this concert! He is the absolute sweetest!!

Mother's Day at the Zoo...

Yesterday we had a fun day out at the Zoo for Mother's Day with Cindy and Thomas and the Joneses. It was such a beautiful day to go and when we got there, a nice lady gave us FREE tickets...sweeeet! We spent a couple of hours walking around looking at all the animals and then we all packed up and went to lunch. to our dismay, Chow baby (the original plan) was closed on Sunday for lunch, so we ended up eating at IHOP which was still good...we joked about being so hungry that it really wouldn't have mattered where we ate, we would've cleaned out plates anywhere we went! We had such a fun time with everyone and I hope that Cindy and Katie both had a wonderful Mother's Day out!!

***I took several pictures, but for some reason they are not loading, so I only loaded 3***

Before and After...

Hair Before...

Hair After...

It's all gone! It was so unhealthy and I got to the point where I couldn't do anything with it and even straightening it made it look stringy...so, I went this morning to get it all chopped off and guess what? I donated FOUR PONYTAILS (!) to Locks of Love...That's a lot of hair gone! I hope it makes a few good wigs for people that need them =)

What do you think?

Best. Book. Ever...

Ok, so my Collaborating Teacher gave me this book the week I left, but I waited to start reading it until this week. Oh. My. Gosh. I LOVE it! It is based on the Book of Hosea which I have never really studied, but in a nutshell it is about a strong Christian man being called to marry a prostitute. The unconditional love that is shown in this book that the husband shows for his wife and that God shows for her is awe inspiring. Anyone can relate to this book because we have all strayed or questioned God at some point in our lives, whether we are a Christian or not. Anyway....you should read it. It's awesome (well, at least I thought so haha).
